Hey all,

Drove out to Chicago this weekend to see Steve Hauschildt (formerly of Emeralds) and Forma at Constellation. I never saw Emeralds before they broke up, but now I've seen all 3 members solo, and I've been following Forma since they first started posting demos on Soundcloud and this was my first chance to see them. Both sets were astonishing. Forma use several tables of synths plus a grand piano, flute, and percussion, and Hauschildt has mind-bending visuals. He also dedicated one piece to Pauline Oliveros, who passed away this weekend, which I'm still :'( about. Fantastic concert.

I'm being told this is the last CMJ reporting week of the year, which I was totally unprepared for, so here is a short, top-of-the-head list of some of my favorite releases of 2016:
